In Smooth Talking Stranger I loved some quotes here and there but overall, I couldn’t find much of that witty, humorous, brilliant writing.

I’m used to Lisa Kleypas’s brilliant writing in her historical romances. We all know EVERYONE has a past but who would repetitively mention another woman while having sex?Īlso, the voice of the actress in the audiobook didn’t help the fact that I was annoyed with Ella 80% of this book. Yep, she want to crawl back to the guy that left her on her own when she needed him the most!Īnd if Ella annoyed me to no end, her sister and their relashionship made completely furious!Įven with the hero, Jack, Ella’s attitude bothered me because she kept comparing him to that same ex “boyfriend” and she often asked about Jack’s previous lovers. She actually wants to go back to that “open minded” relashionship. When her “boyfriend” enlightens her…she’s not bothered AT ALL! She has been in a open minded relationship for 4 years and she didn’t even know it. When Luke comes into the picture, her family’s troubles ruin what she perceived as perfect. She’s very happy with the “perfect life” she’s build for herself after her terrible childhood. Maybe it was the writing or… maybe it’s just me. I know I was supposed to feel for her and empathize but I couldn’t connect with Ella’s character.Įven if the author tells us she’s an independent woman with issues that are a result of an horrible childhood, I just couldn’t see past her lack of backbone. She writes on a magazines as “Miss Independence” giving advice to people for a living but she seems the person least qualified to do such a thing. I have 2 main issue with this book: The heroine I was probably blinded with the sweetness overload caused by little Luke…I can’t explain it otherwise. I just finished listening to the audiobook version and it definitely wasn’t a 4 stars read this time. When I first read this book, more then 3 years ago, I rated it 4 stars but I did not write a review so I don’t know what made me give such high rating. Jack is absolutely certain he’s not baby Luke’s father but Ella is persistent. His mama is having a mental breakdown and his aunty Ella is the only one that steps up, even if her boyfriend wants her to find another solution because he doesn’t want babies around.Įlla falls quickly in love with little Luke but she has other responsabilities and decides his father needs to take responsability for him too. Jack Travis, a millionaire Texas playboy meets the infamous Miss Independent, Ella Varner, a columnist working in Austin…why?Ī little bundle of joy named Luke, needs someone responsible that can love him and take care of him.
