After yet another episode, Harper is sent to a home for troubled girls in the mysterious small town of Peachville. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she's lost count. I can’t wait to see where the next installment takes Harper and Jackson since there are so many mysteries still to unravel and where the future might take Harper as she delves further into the world of the Peachville Demons and if she’ll embrace her heritage or forge her own path.In Peachville, even the cheerleaders have a dark side. I can’t keep any of the cheerleaders straight, they all seemed to blend (but I love how they use their magic for frivolous stuff, and their world of magic in general as it blends with high school life), but I did love Jackson with his typical smoldering mysterious bad boy with a caring heart persona and the addition of Goth Morgyn was a wonderful new character and mystery all to herself. Though this did fall briefly into the trap of most indie magical-girl stories by spending several pages on a block info-dump explaining powers, the magical world, its history, and its standard villains, but it was very brief and the story moved on focusing on other stuff rather than miring itself in the rules and details of its newly explained world. She’s refreshing with her blonde hair, popularity, and frivolous nature when the market is right now inundated by over-serious, outcast Bella-types, and because of that, this story has a lighter feel to it than a lot of the books currently on the market, which I adored. Harper reminds me of Elena from The Vampire Diaries books.
And Jackson, who makes Harper’s heart beat faster every time she sees him, with several dark mysteries surrounding him and undoubtedly more to follow.Ĭomments: I do tired easily of Teen stories that focus on high school life with girls crushing on various guys, the shopping, and basic teen drama with the stereotypical bullies, all of which this has, but I still sped through this installment and loved every minute of it. There are the Others, those with powers that didn’t make the team cut who have a deep resentment of the cheerleaders as well as the mysterious Goth Morgyn Baker who seems to hate the mere sight of Harper. But life as a witch isn’t as perfect as her other team mates and their coach make it out to be.
Not only is she now one of the elite cheerleaders, but it turns out that cheerleading is only the surface and underneath it, the team are all training to be powerful witches and with it the promise to help Harper understand and control the powers that reside within her. Summary: After being bounced around from foster home to foster home and treated as an outcast, Harper has finally found a place where she fits in at Peachville High.
